Solesca has integrated DNV’s SolarFarmer power model API into its solar design platform, enabling users to conduct energy yield assessments directly within the design environment.

Integrated modeling for faster, more accurate design

Using existing tools, solar developers have to choose between speed and accuracy—using fast layout tools with limited modeling capabilities or relying on detailed or bankable simulation models that require separate software and longer turnaround times.

With the SolarFarmer API now integrated directly into Solesca, users can push their layout designs through a bankable power model - delivering high-quality energy assessments during the design process, without leaving the platform.

Solesca's integration implementation has been reviewed by DNV, and tested against complex project configurations and test cases, to ensure that the integration delivers results consistent with native SolarFarmer projects.

Built on a foundation of interoperability

The SolarFarmer API joins Solesca’s existing integration with the Solcast API as well as several other bankable irradiance data sources, which provides simple and fast access to high-quality solar irradiance data. Together, these integrations allow users to design systems using high-quality weather data and simulate performance using bankable modeling tools—all within a single platform.

This combination supports a more connected and efficient workflow, from initial site screening through to feasibility analysis.

Benefits for solar development teams

SolarFarmer is already being used globally for energy yield modeling in project financing, and delivers yield accuracy results exceeding standard bankable power models, within 0.1% of measurements. The integration of such a high-quality model into a design tool like Solesca brings several practical advantages to developers looking improve the effectiveness and scale of their work:

  • Accuracy: SolarFarmer’s physics-based engine has been validated against operational data.
  • Scalability: The API is built to support high volumes of project assessments, aligning with the industry's growth trajectory.

This integration supports faster site screening, more reliable feasibility studies, and better alignment between sales and engineering teams.

Industry context

According to Solesca COO, Rocco Fucetola, the integration helps address a common challenge in solar development: ensuring that early-stage designs meet the standards required for financing. By embedding SolarFarmer into the design process, teams using Solesca can produce lender-grade outputs more efficiently and reduce the risk of rework or project delays.
