The Australian National University (ANU) is running a $4M research project funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) which is working with distribution network service providers to develop and deploy solar data services which aid DNSPs in their operations under high penetration solar PV scenarios. This project includes oversight from both AEMO and ENA through the project steering committee, and as of mid 2018 comprises a total of 12 distribution network partners. This project is now halfway through its lifespan (July 2016 start, June 2019 end date).
Currently Solcast and ANU partner with the following DNSPs:
- Powercor Australia
- United Energy
- Horizon Power
- EvoEnergy (formerly ActewAGL)
- Essential Energy
- Endeavour Energy
- EnergyQ (Ergon Energy, Energex)
- Western Power
- SA Power Networks
As part of an aggressive data sharing campaign, ANU and Solcast are providing radiation data, solar PV power output datasets and real-time forecasting capability for researchers. The campaign uses resources from the ARENA project and the growing capability at Solcast with the aim of making them freely available for research purposes, with all costs of these services provided by ANU through the Knowledge Sharing efforts with ARENA project.
